Indira Shook joined Collins Family and Elder Law Group in 2024 as a paralegal, bringing her expertise to the Columbia, South Carolina office. In her role, she provides vital support to attorneys Melinda Q. Taylor, Stephanie M. Smith, and Christine M. Robbins, contributing to the efficient operation of the firm.
With a focus on client service and case management, Indira is responsible for drafting documents, maintaining the legal team’s calendars, and ensuring that all aspects of case management are meticulously organized. Her daily interactions with clients reflect her commitment to fostering strong relationships and providing exceptional support throughout the legal process.
Education & Experience
Indira, originally from Nicaragua, obtained political asylum in the United States in 1989. She was raised in Miami, Florida. Following high school, Indira dedicated five years to active duty in the U.S. Army, where she served with distinction in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Her commitment to service extends beyond her military career, as she is actively involved in the Women’s Veteran Athletes Initiative, advocating for the empowerment and support of female veterans.
Indira holds an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice from Kaplan University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Government and Legal Studies, complemented by a paralegal certification from Texas Woman's University. Bilingual in English and Spanish, she leverages her language skills and diverse background to foster communication and understanding within her community and profession. Indira’s journey reflects a profound dedication to both her country and the advancement of women in the veteran community.

Indira is a devoted family woman who cherishes her husband, six children, and their two beloved golden retrievers. Her commitment to family values is reflected in her active involvement in their lives, ensuring that quality time is a priority. Together, they enjoy exploring the outdoors, particularly boating on Lake Murray.
In addition to her family pursuits, Indira has a passion for culinary experiences, frequently trying new and unique restaurants with her husband. Whether it's a cozy beach outing or an adventure on the water, she finds joy in the little moments. Indira balances her professional responsibilities with a rich personal life, demonstrating her belief in the importance of connection and exploration.
