Bio
Mikaila Matt is an attorney in the Lowcountry offices primarily in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina exclusively practicing in family law and domestic relations. Mikaila grew up traveling the world in support of her father’s military career, which gave her insight into different cultures and customs.
After high school, Mikaila graduated from Coe College in Iowa where she was heavily involved in campus and community activities like the annual Dance Marathon and tutoring adults in English at the Catherine McAuley Center. She also volunteered at Kids First Law Center where she taught children about divorce in the Divorce Workshops for Kids.
In 2016, Mikaila moved to Charleston to attend the Charleston School of Law where she graduated in the top 15% of her class. Mikaila was also heavily involved as she was a Senior Fellow for the Legal Research and Writing Department, Associate Editor-in-Chief of Resolved, and Editor-in-Chief of MALABU.
Mikaila’s background helps guide her passion for creating strategies to advocate for the best interests of her clients and provide the knowledge her clients need to make well-informed decisions during one of the most difficult times in their lives.
Experience & Scope of Practice
During law school, she clerked for Charleston Pro Bono Legal Services and a local family law firm. In other words, she started gaining experience before she became a licensed attorney.
Prior to joining Collins Family & Elder Law Group, Mikaila practiced as a litigation attorney at a boutique law firm in West Ashley. She represented clients in custody, divorce, visitation, child support, separate support and maintenance, child custody modification, third-party custody, name change, termination of parental rights and adoption, and served as a private Guardian ad Litem.

Personal Interests
Mikaila was an adjunct professor at the Charleston School of Law, teaching Legal Research Analysis & Writing and Legal Skills. Mikaila remains involved with the students at Charleston School of Law by serving as a mentor through the Law Links program and aiding with bar preparation. Outside of the office, Mikaila loves to travel, experiment in the kitchen with new gadgets, take yoga classes, and hang out with her fiancé and dog.
